Home to many of New Zealand's most endangered species. Come and experience for yourself the New Zealand environment the way it used to be – an ancient, vibrant pest-free forest alive with native wildlife including many of New Zealand’s rarest endangered plants, insects, tuatara and birds like the takahe, kiwi and kaka. Step through the 47km long pest-proof fence into another world, where an ancient forest towers majestically above well maintained walking tracks and the air is filled with birdsong. As the largest mainland fenced sanctuary in New Zealand we offer a variety of experiences like guided tours and bush walks, a viewing tower, tuatarium and a wetland experience.
